 We have just came back from Zakynthos (Louis Royal Palace Vasilikos), the Island is beautiful, the resort was o.k, but I would avoid going all inclusive as the people of Zakynthos are not only friendly and welcoming, but their prices are competitive and they know the Island better than many of the travel agents, You can get an apartment for 2 people for 20 euros a night, the local restaraunts are brilliant with Uncle Nikos being one of the highlights of the holiday, set amongst olive trees and overlooking the quiet road on the way to Mavratzis beach, you are made to feel welcome, there is gentle music playing, the place is immaculately clean with the family are the nicest of people, George who runs the bar speaks perfect english and has an amazing philosophy on life, he face lit up when he showed his collection of football scarves that had been donated or sent to him by past visitors, of which I am currently in the process of obtaining one for him to say thank you for his hospitality.
The cafe bar offers great local Greek beer like Alpha, Mythos or Fix, a vast amount of cocktails, home brands(breezers,cider etc), or a coffee/Tea and the chance to sit outside and soak in the atmosphere, a place where you feel welcome and not treated like customer but more like a friend or member of the family,
I will definetly be visiting Zakynthos again, the views from the roads from Argassi to Vassilikos are amazing, if you want an alternative to the party loving part of the Island head towards Vasilikos, there are beautiful Villas/apartments for rent, the cab fares are well priced, but you can rent a car out of one of the local firms for cometetive prices as well. | |
