Boasting what is unarguably the most magnificent beach on the island, Gerakas is steeped in natural beauty and a sense of tranquillity that makes it an idyllic retreat for anyone wanting to get right away from the crowds and commercialism found in many holiday resorts. Sitting at the tip of the Vassilikos peninsular, the area is a turtle breeding ground and designated marine park - the first in the Mediterranean. This long lazy crescent of golden sand with its safe and shallow waters is protected from the open sea and prevailing winds by a stretch of low sandy cliffs. The beaches here are totally natural, making Gerakas a stunning haven. If you feel the need for some sociability, there are two tavernas - one of which has live music in the evenings.
