Kalamaki basically consists of a main "strip", along which there are many restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. There is also a cash machine and a pharmacy. If you are looking for lively nightlife, then go to Laganas, as you won't find it in Kalamaki. However, if all you want from your holiday is to go somewhere for a nice evening meal followed by a stroll and a few drinks, then you will find Kalamaki very acceptable. The beach straight down from the hotel was quite hard to get to (due to the dunes in which the turtles nest), so we made the stroll down to Stani's beach (about 15 mins walk) and found that to be very clean, calm, and with a taverna in easy reach. 2 sunbeds plus an umbrella were 8 Euros per day.
